Overview
Soilco Materials Investigations (Pty) Ltd was formed in November 1997 when Soils Design Laboratories (Natal) and Bradco Laboratory (Pty) Ltd merged.

Soils Design Laboratories (Natal) was established in 1965 as a road construction materials testing laboratory to serve the needs of A. A Loudon and Partners, a firm of Consulting Engineers.

In 1975 the shareholder base of the Company was broadened by the inclusion of three other Consulting Engineers — De Leuw Cather Incorporated, VKE Engineers and GFJ (Pty) Ltd.

Bradco Laboratory (Pty) Ltd was formed in 1981 by Bradford Conning and Partners to provide a materials testing service to themselves and to the Civil Engineering Industry.

Since the merger in 1997, the original shareholding has changed, the current shareholders are SSI, Civilab, Jeffares and Green (Pty) Ltd, Letsunyane and Associates, Vela VKE and J.A.Venter.

The broader shareholder base ensured that the services offered by Soilco were enhanced to include a full spectrum of materials testing — soils, concrete, aggregates, asphalt, bitumen and geotechnical. Soilco also carries out geotechnical and rehabilitation investigations.
